Tank question

I have a 47 gal, tall aquarium with 4 barbs, a male Beta and a Bala shark. I was just wondering if this is a decent set up for them. As you can tell I am new to the aquarium life. Also is the tank going to be big enough for the bala in the future?

The bala sharks have the potential of 13-16 inches, so he'll eventually outgrow the aquarium, in my oppinion. How are the barbs doing with the betta? Some barbs will nip at a betta's fins...

well I'm hoping the bala is going to be a shrimp, but if he does get big I have a buddy with a 100 gallon tank. The barbs are schooling up and down the tank and pretty much leaving the beta alone except fot one minor incident that seemed to be the last. However the beta (who has been in a fish bowl alone) for the last year seems to sit at the bottom of the tank and do nothing...

I'm a little concerned about the betta just hanging at the bottom not doing anything.

I think the point is that bettas like their water warmer than many other tropical fish. They are most active at about 80F (27C). At lower temperatures they will lay about and not move much. At one time I had one in a tank that had not been fully cycled and again, even at the right temperature, he was very lazy and too inactive until I removed some of his stress by doing a 50% water change.

I have the temp around 80 degrees now and he seems to be happy enough swimming around now. Thanks all for the advice.
