subtrate causing black water

Just bought a 36 gallon bow front aquarium. I am using caribsea flora max substrate. After rinsing and putting in tank it has turned my water black even after rinsing. any suggestions as to what I can do to clear the water.

I would do a couple of water changes. If there is no fish in there I would do 100% water changes. If there is I would do 75%. You can also add carbon to your filter as it will take the color out for ya.

Btw welcome to Tropical fish keeping!

I agree, w/c s are the best method, especially before you add fish, but thereafter, "pruigen" works like magic in between w/c s. (500 times more effective than carbon) It is rechargeable too.
