Stocking a 10 gallon...

I have an extra 10 gallon freshwater aquarium, but I can't decide what to put in it. I want something that won't outgrow it, but also on the rare side of things. Tank will be filtered with Aquaclear 200, and maybe have live plants.... we'll see. Any ideas of what I could put in there??

Thanks, I've been meaning to subscribe to that! I got the trial issue and loved it.

Hey Tophat,
any chance you could post what TFH has listed as the top 10 for a 10 gallon? I'd be interested to see it. :)

150 Gallon - Mostly American Cichlids
135 Gallon - Angelfish Community
75 Gallon - Odd couple (Polleni/Angelfish)
55 Gallon - African tank
20 Gallon Long - QT
10 Gallon - Empty

neons/cardinals/glowlights
kuhlis
sparkling gouramis/Honey Gouramis
Shellies (L multifascitus was the one they picked out, or maybe brevis)
cherry shrimp

Next time I'm out in the garage, I'll see if I can figure what the other 5 were.

First, a correction to that list. The Shellie they named was Neolamprologus brevis, and they also mentioned Lamprologus ocellatus.

The rest:
Dwarf cories (C. hasbrosus, hastatus, and pygmeus)
Least Killifish (Heterandia formosa)
Beckford's/Golden Pencilfish (Nannostomous beckfordi)
Galaxy Rasbora/Celestial Pearl Danio (Celestichthys margarinatus)
Nerite snails

There are lots more fish that do really well in a 10. However, they picked this group for being relatively hardy and easy to come by. (Key being relative - you'll only see dwarf cories in stores in the first quarter of the year unless they're tank bred).
