Rosy Barbs

Hi

We are new to keeping fish and have just bought some rosy barbs for our son. Just wanted to check how often they should be fed? The pet store said to feed them every second day with the fish flakes. Does this seem correct? We have 3 of them

Thanks

Hi Suzi and welcome to the forum. How many rosy barbs do you have?

Barbs in general are omnivores and will eat anything but they do require a bit of vegetable matter to stay healthy. What I'd suggest is feeding your barbs a general community fish type flake one day and a vegetable or spirulina based flake the next day, alternating like that. DO NOT follow the instructions on the packaging that says things like "feed what the fish can eat in five minutes" or something like that. This is gross overfeeding and designed for owners to go through food fast so they have to keep buying more. Instead, feed roughly two to four flakes per fish, depending on the size of the fish.
