Real SAE Quarantine procedure?

Hi Everyone,

I want to buy a "real" siamese algue eater, but wandering what is the quarantine procedure for this fish, and what general preventitive medications such as Prazi Pond, Salt, Antibasterial food such as Metro Meds, are used while they are in quarantine? Pls share your experience, i really dont want to give my existing fish any diseases.

I'm not sure about the quarentine procedures, but you can see some information on Siamese Algae Eaters in the profile. You should be able to click on the shaded name. It's worth it to note specifically that they are schooling fish and should be in groups of 6+ in a tank at least 4' long.

Agree with ladayen on the species.

As for quarantine, the purpose is to simply isolate the fish in a small space for a period of 3-4 weeks to ensure it is not carrying something that could infect the fish in the display tank. You should never add any medications/treatments to the quarantine tank unless the fish does have a specific disease/parasite. Medications can be highly stressful, and a new fish is under sufficient stress just from being captured and moved.

Something we all need to remember: The fish you've acquired was quite happy not being owned by you, minding its own business. If you’re going to take it under your wing then you’re responsible for it. Every aspect of its life is under your control, from water quality and temperature to swimming space. [Nathan Hill in PFK]
