I just started this fish keeping hobby about a month and a half ago. I received a 14 G hexagonal tank from a freind complete with heater and 20G filter. I have read a lot of stuff about cycling, testing the levels etc. I started out the tank with 2 neon tetras, 2 platies, and a guppy. A few weeks ago I noticed some fry swimming around. They were pretty elusive at first but now that they are bigger I see them more often and there are 3 of them. So in total there were about 8 fish in the tank.
yesterday I was perusing craigslist to see what type of guppies I could find, thinking about adding a fancy guppy to the tank, and I ran across someone selling endlers. I did a little research about endlers and instantly fell in love. I thought, what the heck I'll get a male and female and let them breed and see what happens. I knew that most of them will get eaten but a few will survive and that will be good for not over populating the tank also while getting to see all the pretty colors the fry get.
Well, when I met the seller at Starbucks he gave me a bag full of about 6 or 7 Endlers!!! I put them all in my tank yesterday and boy is there a lot going on in my tank now! I think there are about 2 male, 2 female and 3 or 4 fry endlers.
I checked the levels in the tank after adding them and my nitrite and nitrate are high but not in the "danger zone" levels. Unfortunately, I am not at home while writing this so I cannot give the exact numbers of the readings.
Any advice or thoughts about this are welcome! Thanks!
