new 55 gallon tank

Hi all, am a newbee that has come back in the fish game after many years!!! I have set up in the last 2 weeks (I am in the middle of cycling) a 55 gal tank. I have good filtration. I live in Arizona, and the inside of my house in the summer is kept at 83 degrees with air in the day time. What type of fish can I get for this type of situation? I do not want to purchase a chiller as they are too expensive for me. Thanks in advance for your advice. Also, the electricity goes off occasionally once every couple of months) and it could get to 86 degrees for several hours. I was thinking of some type of gold fish, as my sister has some in her pond outside and they have survived the cold snap we had this year and also the summer temps.

We have other members in Arizona, they will probably be chiming in eventually (in summer many are on vacation), and they maintain successful tropical tanks in similar conditions.

Goldfish are one option, but bear in mind that they need a lot of space. A 55g may seem big to you, but it is not big to the Goldfish. And they produce a lot of waste which impacts the water quality and thus the fish.

Tropicals will depend upon your tap water parameters. Some fish have preferences, others are more adaptable. Telling us the hardness and pH of your tap water (assuming that is the source water) will allow us to suggest options. You can find this info out from your water supply people, many have a website with water data posted.
