New 55 gallon

I got a sweet deal on a 55 back in November. I kept the tank and stand and upgraded everything else. I'm running a Rena XP3 along with an AC 70, Two Stealth heaters, one 100 and the other a 250 watt. I also added a nice piece of driftwood.

Then I transfered everything from my 20 gallon high. Silk plants, decorations, filter media and placed gravel in pantyhose for the bacteria.

My stock includes: 6 Black Skirts, 6 White Clouds, 3 Rummynose, 4 AU Rainbowfish, 6 Platys, 2 P.Pulcher Kribs and a Mystery Snail. So far everyone is getting along fine....I might have trouble if the Kribs decide to breed, but right now everyone is happy.

Now it's back to daily water testing. I hoping for only a mini cycle or nothing at all.

I basically did the same thing as you a few months back. I had a 20 gallon high and transferred everything (except I added new gravel) to my 55 including the filter. I tested daily and never saw a mini cycle. Although I only had a Severum and a pleco that were transferred at the time. Did you transfer all your fish at once?

Yeah. Everything was in the 20 except the Kribs and 4 White Clouds. So I have almost the same bio load. Also 2 of the White Clouds and 4 of the Platys I have listed for the 55 are still in my QT tank.

I did the same type of transfer when I started my 29. I transfered 2 Platys, 6 Panda Corys, 5 zebra Danios, 2 Honey Gouramis and 3 Julii Corys all at the same time with filter media and decorations. I saw about .25 ammonia around week two and a water change took care of that. I'm hoping for the same results.

looks awsome! i transfered a bunch of fish a few years back too. unfortunately it wasnt because i wanted to. i had a smallish tank that some how got a crack in it and started to lose water. it wasnt that bad of a deal for me cuz i was able to get a new 29 gal tank! i still have that tank today and luckily it hasnt broken or anything!!!!!!! but anyway your tank looks awsome. i think the driftwood was a great idea. it brings a great look to the tank.

i know you arent supposed to use wood that you find around your house for a tank but can you use rocks? do you have to do something special to them or should you just stay away from them?

You can. And I have before. BUT be sure to read this sticky first. Certain rocks will mess up your water chemistry (PH, GH, KH). You also want to make sure there is no heavy metal in the rocks.
