Need help in deciding what fish to add to 29 gallon tank

I now have 2 Honey Gourami, 3 x-ray pristella and 5 Neon Tetra in my 29 gallon tank. In another week or so if my water parameters are good I'd like to add some different. My main concern is that everyone get long. My gourami are doing fine with the tetras so far. I'd like something that likes the middle to top. I'm not thinking of adding any bottom feeders for at least another month, since the tank is on the new side.

I'd appreciate any and all comments. Thanks!

I agree German Rams are great but they need to be kept at 82 degrees or more and Neon Tetras will not do well at that temperature. I would add 1 more neons and 3 X-ray they are shoaling fish and need to be in groups of at least 6 to feel safe and they will look awesome. Then I would add a group of six or so Harlequin Rasbora to add some more color. These three will give you a really active tank with lots of color. ; )

Thanks for the suggestions of Blue Ram (someone told me they wouldn't mix with the Honey Gourami) and increasing the tetras and rasbora. I was going to increase the x-ray pristella to 5, but they are such aggressive feeders that I was concerned they'd leave the neons without as much. That's why I have 5 neons and only 3 x-rays. I could up the neons to 7 and the x-rays to 5, but then I wouldn't have as much room left for any other fish. I like the rasbora, but I like the ones that are more colorful, like the axelrod or dwarf ones with spots (can't remember what they are called).

Are the glofish (which are really danios, right?) too active for the tank?

What about the dwarf neon rainbow fish?

Plumkin just because the LFS has it that way it does not mean it is the right way.
rsn- I have not kept danios in a really long time so I can't give an opinion on them.

true they had Discus with angels and the Discus were BLACK .. i wish i could have Discus with my angels but no there not friends T_T

Please have a look at our fish profiles section, most of these are included and information on temperatures, numbers, tank sizes, companions, etc. is included. Second tab from the left in the blue bar across the top of the page takes you to the profile section.

Amanda is correct, neons are cooler water fish (mid-70's F max) wile rams must have 80+. You cannot compromise on such things as one (or both) fish will be the loser and be stressed and have health issues and early death.

As for stores, sometimes they have no choice, they have only so many tanks and have to put the fish somewhere, and know they (hopefully) won't be there long so as a temporary measure it can (note, can, not always does) work. Permanent conditions at home is a very different matter. And I know we all want to provide the best care for our fishes.
