It was driving me crazy. I've seen one before, I only remembered it because of their cool stripped tail fins. However a little more searching and it could also be Semaprochilodus taeniurus or Semaprochilodus insignis. All three species look really similar. But judging by the number of google hits these two species are much more common than the first one I listed. Also slightly smaller- max size is now 10" .

My guess is that it is Semaprochilodus taeniurus, cuz that was the one with the most google hits. Usually means it is the most common.

damn you guys are great. thats preety much it except its not white its a grayish color.

I have him in with neons bigger tetras and a few tiger barbs in a 55 gal what do i feed it and how big will it get

it says to feed him vegies are unfrozen peas ok

My tinfoils, not the same fish, but similar, absolutely love skinned peas, any green leafy food blanched, cucumers, and blanched zuchini.
I use veggie clips to hold them in place.
Fresh veggies are one thing my tinfoils will fight over.
Good luck with your new fish! It looks very cool, wishing I had one.

Just an update. This guy hasn't grown to much. its still 5 in long about 4 in height. This fish is great. Have it in with 1 Tiger Barb 6 neon tetras 3 red finned and 3 black finned tetras. some kuhli loaches, panda loaches, never once has it bothered these small fishes, even tho they are about 1 tenth its size.
fOOD WIZE i TRYED PEAS, CARROTS BROCKLI. CUCOMBERS hE WONT EATEM. hE EATS ALGIE OFF THE TANK ALL DAY, FLAKE FOOD AND ALGAE WAFERS. tHIS WAS A GREAT PICK wISH HED EAT SOME VEGGIES AND STOP POOPING SO MUCH
