Is my setup okay?

I have 2 20 gallon tanks and a 30 gallon tank. I want to buy 2 tiger oscars for the 30 gallon and mayber a freshwater bichir for one of my 20 gallon tanks. I'm also thinking about creating a minnow farm in the other 20 gallon tank.

What kind of filter should I get or are my tanks not big enough?

Thanks

Tiger oscars, 50 gallons each, I think 2 of them would be fine in an 85. As for the Bichir, I think it will be fine in a 20 as long as it is not one of the huge species. More room would be better but if it is just him then it could work fine.

As for the minnow farms, why not guppies? Should be easier to breed and cleaner.

As for filters, if you can afford them get canister filters. Always the best way to go to keep the water the cleanest.

Might try a couple, 3-5 trigger fish instead of Oscars although I do not know how they get along with each other nor how big they are at adult.

Id say 75 gallon min for a single oscar and 55 for a any species of bichir. I agree with the guppy idea over minnow.

fish_4_all- why would you recommend triggers? They require more space and much more care.

Bad info from my LFS about the triggers then. The ones I saw were suppoed to only get to 4 inches and they said they could be kept in a 30 gallon, 3-5 of them as long as it had plenty of plants and stuff to hide. Maybe it was just a smaller species.

Can't check them all. I would never got off the computer, lol.

Ok, I think I found the right ones. Amazon Leaf fish. Predatory, very fast and kinda cool looking. Not flashy but still interesting.

Sorry for the confusion.

Less than 200gph 2 leafs, more than 200gph up to 4 of them. (Thank herefishy for the info)
