There was a very good article by Mark Denaro in the April 2012 TFH showing how to set up two different catfish biotopes from the Amazon. One features corys, the other pleco. I could scan the 3 pages if you can't get a copy.
Pictus are best in a group of 5, and attaining 5 inches they need space. Corys, the pleco, perhaps a Whiptail or two... could be quite nice.
