usually the lights that come with the tank are not enough to support live plants, but it really depends on the size of the tank, type of light, and wattage.

If you get plants that do well without any special lighting needs, (like Java Fern) it will be fine. There are a lot of plants that do well with low light.

What is your tank size (gallons, and dimensions are needed)?

Do you have an existing light fixture on the tank, and if yes, what type (fluorescent, incandescent) and if fluorescent, how many tubes and what is their length (this differs usually from the tank length, so we need both)?

There are many, many plants suitable for a gourami aquarium that can be grown with low and moderate light; and I wouldn't have bright light over a gourami tank, they ar sedate fish that live in heavily planted swamps and streams with shade from overhanging vegetation and floating plants. Once we know the above information, we'll easily answer your question.
