From that angle it looks like a rubberlip pleco. They're also known as pitbull plecos and bulldog plecos. They're actually pretty sweet, or at least the three I had were, and they get thick bodied but only stay 3-4 inches or so. I think three is supposed to be their max size, but I had one biiig guy who was almost four inches and just looked massive in comparison to the others who were around three inches. They're nice little plecos! Need 20+ gallons as a bare minimum(they're actually pretty active and prefer more space), so be sure you have him in a proper sized tank.

They aren't really social, actually. Not like schooling/shoaling fish are anyways. Males can actually be territorial with other males and may get aggressive if there isn't enough space for them, given enough space they shouldn't fight(my trio was in a 55 gallon tank mind). They get along fine with females. Females, however, will be fine in the presence of a male or other females.

When I first got mine, I was informed they liked to be kept in a couple or trio...however I have not been able to find any info on them that says they need company. So he'll be just fine as a single.
