depends how much chlorine is in your water and how the fish will want to react. if you run a red light will someone hit your or will you make it?

I would NEVER chance something like that. It's safer to put off the pwc for a day or two than risk the chance off killing your fish.

you can also leave water to sit out for a couple of days and the chlorine will dissipate, if temp isn't an issue.

That's not completely true. Chlorine will dissipate, yes, but chloramine doesn't dissipate so easily. Neither do heavy metals or things like ammonia. I'd stick with the water conditioner.

My water doesn't have chlorine in it.

I know with hardy fish small waterchanges like 10% don't cause a problem because the tank will dilute it.

Other than that, stick with the conditioner. Putting of a WC a day or a couple usually does no harm.
