I don't think you are overstocked for a 55G.

is it a bosemian rainbow fish?

your black tetras should be in a school of atleast 6. All tetras are schooling fish, they may be happier if you get them 4 more buddies. You should be able to fit them no problem.

its the rainbow shark that is black or dark grey with red fins.

are tetras the only thing that can be added with out overstocking?

nooo you won't be overstocked if you add a few fish besides the tetras, but you may want to watch out for aggression from the rainbow shark! Just a heads up!

yeah I meant to say rainbow shark....not bosemian, sorry about that.

you will need to watch out for agression and territorial issues with the RTBS.....Tyy has alot of information on them if he can jump in here.

I know RTBS enjoy caves and certain things to call his own, so maybe a school of top-dwellers would do ok.

What type of pleco do you have? A common pleco will easily grow to one foot and then some!
I've seen 18" monsters...my LFS has one this large.

You can have a combo of plastic & live plants . I prefer a live-planted tank myself.
Not sure on the shrimp but with what you have I'd think you could easily house some larger type shrimp. Someone else will have to confirm this.

If you don't stand up for something you'll fall for anything...
