i have got a 10 gallon I am about a week into with 4 small angels ( I know the tank is too small. I am getting a 55 in less than a month) I read , if I am understanding correctly, that you can add a filter from another tank and some gravel in pantyhose to speed the cycle. Here's the question. I have another tank at home we have had since october, but it has fantail Goldfish in it. will this work the same? thanks in advance.
Yes, it will work the same. Biomedia is biomedia, no matter what fish live in it. Since they are all freshwater you will be fine. Good luck and enjoy your angels, I love mine!
Here's how I'd do it....... First, get your new tank set up with gravel/sand and any new plants you want in your 55G. Add a heater and get it to the proper temperature. Put your new filter(assuming you have one) for that tank get it running. If there is any decor you wish to re-use, move it over.
Once it's warm move the filter from your otehr tank to the new 55G. Don't do anything but move it and get it running. Once thats all good move your fish from your 10G into the 55. Then, you can move a cartridge from the old filter to the new if you want to to speed it up(if there are the same filter) but it's not neccessary. Personally I'd just leave the other tank filter on the new tank. With a 55 you're going to either need a filter on both sides of the divider or a power head anyways.
A special thanks to Tyy....this was pretty much how he described it to me!!!
