And no live plants i assume, so here like i said we have high organics that will feed algae. That is a high fish load for a 26g.

Strictly speaking, with the fish being at maximum size, the tank would be over stocked; however, I think that the over feeding is the real culprit. The filter is probably getting pretty dirty in a short time. It wouldn't hurt to rinse the filter media in the old tank water once a week. If there is time, making up little portion packs and making only 1 day's ration available each day might help with the feeding. Naturally, there would have to be a little container for each of the girls.
