Only if plants are dying. Review or google ..Proper care of bettas.
A heated ,cycled, filtered tank with weekly water change(s) will provide benefits that discourage the chances of fish becoming sick.
Use a dechlorinator for new water added to the tank BEFORE you add the new water and take care that new water is not too cool or too warm.

The most important medication in your fish medicine cabinet is.. Clean water.
