Hello,

I just recieved my API Freshwater Master testing kit and I really like it. But I have a few questions. I have a ph reading of 7.4 on both my aquarium and water out of the tap, is this a problem? Must I get ph down to lower it to nuetral?

My next question is my rating for ammonia is 0, my rating for nitrite is 0, but my nitrate level is high 60 mg/L, How much of a water change should I do? I have been doing about 30-35% water changes of a 75 gallon aquarium about once per week lately, but before hadn't done them frequently enough.

My last and final questions are my LFS sold me Tetra EasyBalance with nitraban that is supposed to help with nitrate levels, does this stuff work? have any of you ever tried it?

Thanks in advance

Hi, Your Ph is fine. It's better to have a stable Ph than to try to mess with it. The fish will adjust.

Nitrates of 60 is pretty high. They should be kept under 40ppm with under 20ppm being preferred. Do water changes spaced a couple days apart until you get your nitrates down around 20ppm. Then you may want to start doing 50% weekly and see if that keeps the nitrates around 20. Also check your tap water to make sure you don't have any nitrates coming right from the tap.

I just use the regular Tetra AquaSafe for water changes. I haven't used the Easybalance. The best way to keep nitrates low is water changes.
