I'm new to keeping an Albino Bristle Nose. He's housed in a heated ten gallon tank with a snail and a beta.
My question was on driftwood: I'm going to get him some, but I was wondering if it has to be specifically driftwood, or could it be another wood so long as it's not been treated or painted or anything? I'm assuming it'd be alright to buy it from the petstore, am I wrong on that? I don't think they'd put anything bad into the wood that would harm Pleco, but I wanted to make sure.
If you have any advice or knowledge to share on having the wood in the aquarium, that would be superb!
I don't know about yours, but where I live all the pet stores sell is plastic made to look like wood. But if they have actual WOOD driftwood then it's almost certainly fine.
I'm afraid I'm not sure - I know it's not pine or cedar. Relatively easy to carve but harder than some woods, I would think. It's a nice solid stick I carved to be used as a walking stick, but then never used.
I'd be very careful adding sticks that are local. It really depends on the type of tree it's from, as certain trees/sticks can be poisonous to fish (specifically soft wood trees...like pine). Oak and beech are the most common, safe options. Even then the stick needs to be thoroughly dead and dried before being added. Some stores sell small pieces of driftwood for around $5
Thank you all for your help :3 It answered my questions, and Mama's!
:thankyou::yourock:
