It's fine as long as these are not afflicted with diseases which can affect the health of your prized fish. A lot of us use livebearers as these are by far the most prolific. I have a pond full of feeder guppies myself for the predatory fish. Convicts and danios are other alternatives however I still prefer the livebearers.

For example, a breeder tank that gives you 20 assorted frys a week... If this is doable, what cheapest fish - even guppy/molly - breeds like crazy? My fish loves the frozen shrimp/worm but i am thinking of another 'dish' to serve as occasional treat.
