I had a pair of these in a 15g and they were fine. The surface area is the most important aspect rather than water depth, since they spend all their time at the surface but they are very sedentary. In a pair they inteact a bit which I found quite interesting; I'm sure it's better for them too, as I said, they are social. And providing what the fish need is a better formula for health long-term.
