Dwarf Puffers

Ok I dont know what catagory the dwarf puffers fall under but I am looking at getting some to fill my empty tank. From what I have read online now I see that the dwarf puffers do not require brackish water and that to tell the difference between them the male has a black stipe down his belly. So is this true with them? Also what are some good decoration ideas for the tank? Also what is a good way to lower the ph in a tank mine is too high for the puffers I believe?

fresh water for these salt would be fatal, what is your ph? about 7-7.5 seems to suit them
the males have a dark yellow/orange/brown chin stripe when mature and the well known "eye wrinkles" always have 1 male per tank or all female or chaos will ensue for decor lots of plants(real or plastic) and hiding places a soft substrate like sand helps they will sometimes bury themselves, ive never experenced this but theres always a chance

My ph is 8.2-8.4 straight out of the tap. Is there any kind of sand substrate that will work with an undergravel filter?

yea thats pretty high you would need to reduce that somehow other than sand small grade rounded gravel would work with a ugf so long as its too big to go clog the intake holes on the filter plate it would work and as i said ive never whitnessed them buring themselves so you may be ok with standard gravel so long as its rounded type rather than the crushed type
