I had a freaky thing happen the other week. One of my small dojo loaches when missing and I could have sworn that I smelled odors of a rotting fish for a couple of days. I looked everywhere and couldn't fnd it. Then one day, I see it swimming in the sump. What a lucky leap. Or maybe it went down the overflow into the trickle tower
I've found Kuhli loaches swimming around under the media of an aquclear filter - those wormy fish are excellent escape artists. I've also lost kuhli loaches to the aquaclear filter intake tube - they didn't make it all the way through the stack. Netting over the intake solved that problem. My money is on the plumbing over jumping
