Do I have too many fish?

We have a 6 gallon Nano Cube with the following:

3 cardinal tetras
2 calico platy
1 pork chop rasboro
1 siamensis

We got this combo 5 days ago, plus 1 clown loach and 3 ghost shrimp that have DISAPPEARED (died? disintegrated?)

We were advised from a very reputable specialty freshwater aquarium store that this was OK. But I am worried it's too many fish, since we've already lost 4 :(

In my honest opinion, it's overstocked. An SAE(siamensis) can reach 15 cm. Far too large for a 6 gallons.
You'll need to get a test kit and test the ammonia, nitrites, nitrates and pH. Ammonia and nitrites are likely the culprits of your death toll.

Ammonia and nitrates are both 0 ppm. We don't have a pH test kit.

Are the others ok together in their current numbers?
I really want shrimp too! Do you think I could get them at some point?

We got them all at the same time, was that a mistake?

Anyone in San Francisco want a free siamensis? His name is Bubbles.

What about nitrites? Cardinals and harlequins need to be kept in groups but a 6 gallons is tightening the possibility. Red Cherry Shrimps are great for 6 gallons.:)

You might want to post an ad in USA Classifieds for Bubbles.:)

I tend to follow the idea that if you think you might be overstocked, then you probably are. :) Good luck finding Bubbles a home... wish I could find one, but they don't carry them in this area!
