This may be some local "name" applied to a relative new discovery. Cyprinids frequently bear a local "name" when first imported, as the new Boraras species I posted about last week illustrates. It was several years after the fish was available in the hobby that it was finally described as a new species and formally named.
All "danio" are now within one of two genera, Danio and Devario, according to the extensive research of ichthyologists like Drs. Fang, Mayden, Kullander, Kottelat and others. There is no listing under Danio or Devario with the epithet "brujos" recognized by the California Academy of Sciences so far, and Dr. Eschmeyer usually has new names listed within a few weeks of the scientific description. Which means, either this is not a valid name for a described species, or the species has not yet been described.
