Compatibility Question

Hi all,

My tank will consist of something like this:

4-5 zebra danios
1 dwarf gourami
1 mystery snail
1 ghost shrimp

My main concern is the issue of compatibility between the shrimp and the snail, is this combination recommended?
Any input/advice would be greatly appreciated!
And feel free to give any suggestions/advice!

Thanks,
Harry

they are fine together. i woudl recomend adding another snail and like 5-10 more shrimp. they like to live with a bunch so they feel more secure. how large is the tank?

My tank's only a 10g, so I'm not sure how much more it could support.
Just to add, right now I have one bamboo shrimp in there. Would getting another bamboo shrimp or adding a ghost shrimp be advisable?

Thanks!

you could probably support a few more but not a whole lot.

4-5 zebra danios
2 dwarf gourami
2 mystery snail
2 ghost shrimp

these are just my suggestions. i would see what other people suggest. i also would consider purhcasing a bigger tank. if you check craiglist there are usually a lot of people seiing tanks cheap.

good luck

Not sure if there's a particular rule about "reviving" old threads but here's an update!

So in my 10g tank I now have:
4 zebra danios (planning to add another one)
1 bamboo shrimp
and 1 ghost shrimp

I originally planned on getting 1 dwarf gourami to complete my tank but they like calm waters which doesn't quite match the likes of the danios and bamboo shrimp as I understand they adore currents. (Currently running a Marineland Penguin 100B(for 20g tanks) and a Hagen Aquaclear 30 powerhead(10-30g tanks))

Would you guys please suggest what other fishes/invertebrates I could add to the tank?

trust me, the shrimp will be a lot more interesting if you have like 5-10 more. you might be able to fit another school of some other fish like some tetras. but trust me, GET SOME MORE SHRIMP

I aree about getting more shrimp. They have a very small bioload and do a great job keeping the tank clean. I think you could easily do 10 shrimp. I think you could do the dwarf gourami if you wanted. I would advise against getting 2, unless they were honey gouramis. Other than that and a couple more danios, maybe some neons, guppies or cherry barbs?

Thanks for all the suggestions!

Okay, so I went to the store and got 3 more ghost shrimp. Perhaps I'll add more when I'm confident I won't accidentally kill them when I gravel vac.

Sadly one of my danios died, (forum peeps suspect it was sick in the first place)

So now in my tank there are:
3 zebra danios (going to get 2 more now)
4 ghost shrimp
1 bamboo shrimp

Does anyone have suggestions for lids and lighting? One of my incandescent bulbs isn't working anymore and I've been meaning to switch to fluorescent light strips, which entails me getting a new lid and lights because my current hood doesn't permit me to use strip lights.

My 10 gallon hood originally came with incandescents also. I found compact flourescents to replace them at Walmart in their fish dept. I think I've also seen them at Petsmart.

Your idea sounds fine - Just not the shrimp part, either get non at all or get a group of 10 they live in VERY VERY large groups normally and housing them all alone is not a proper environment at all.
