Your city can provide you with a water report. If you can find one online that gives you information other then just toxic chemicals it will say it on there. Major cities have them.
As for silver sharks, their probably the only thing you wont be able to keep with the rest of those fish.
Guppies and mollies will reproduce like the plague.
Tetras are easier to keep and are hardy strong fish.
Cory Catfish such as Bronze cory are good catfish to keep for substrate in groups of 5 or more.
A good website to guide you on how to stock your aquarium is AqAdvisor - Intelligent Freshwater Tropical Fish Aquarium Stocking Calculator and Aquarium Tank/Filter Advisor
You can put your tank specks in there and put in what fish you want to keep. The filtration is mainly a recommendation. when you have the tank at 100% it will most likely HIGH RECOMMEND adding more filtration. Mainly pay attention to the stocking percentage.
If you haven't considered it yet, you should look at some plants for the aquarium such as Java Fern, Hornwort and Java Moss. all good low light plants.
It is best to do a cycle before putting fish in the tank. Here is a great guide on many ways to do the cycle. It is best for the fish not to put them in until the cycle is done (unless one chooses to use a lot of plants..then the cycling side effects can be adverted).
Go here. I would read this before doing anything with the tank so you know what you are getting into. :) it is very informative. http://www.tropicalfishkeeping.com/f...m-cycle-38617/
Also if you read through this thread it will give you a good idea on what you need to know and look for while choosing your fish. I deff recommend you reading this: http://www.tropicalfishkeeping.com/f...tocking-38626/
You also want to introduce fish slowly. the substrate fish..the more subarodanate fish next and then the top ranked fish who are gonna be more aggresive. When you do this you want to introduce 2-5 fish max a week so you can check water parameters. You want to add all fish of the same species at the same time.
hope this helps and good luck! post some pictures!
What kind of substrate?!
