Clown loach question

I just posted earlier that my entire large tank filter crashed during the night...I lost several fish and was able to rescue a giant pink kissing gourami and a single clown loach (there were 3 originally)...I am rehoming the gourami today (hopefully) and realize that keeping a single clown loach is cruel - he is currently in a smaller tank with other yoyo loach - my question is- should I rehome him as well or do you think he could be happy with loach of another kind - they all seem to love him and even crowd into his cave with him...or do they need to be in a small school with their own kind....thanks in advance!!

Clown loaches most definitely need to be in their own "group" with a grouping of at least five of them in order for them to truly thrive. Clowns require at least a 75gl; I feel 100gl should be the minimum. The same holds true for yo-yos as far as grouping. In a 30gl I would reconsider keeping clowns. It's simply too small for them. Kuhli loaches would be fine in a 30gl as they are much smaller as adults but the clowns grow much too large for anything under a 100gl.

If you don't stand up for something you'll fall for anything...

I just adopted the clown loach and the kissing gourami to a woman that has several huge aquariums - she is going to be putting my clown loach in with about 6 others that she already has - I think this is the best thing for the fish....THANKS!!!

I'm so happy to hear that! Clowns are one of my favorite fish. It always bums me out when people keep clowns in tanks that are much too small. So, what do you plan on stocking your tank with now??

75g would be the minimum. 55g and smaller can work temporarily until the clowns reach 3-4 inches mark.

Sent from my desktop or phone or whatever else I am holding on to 2
