I am looking for something that will help keep my fry tank looking clean by eating left over food and algae and also add a bit of variety. obviously it has to NOT eat guppy fry and not leave too much waste behind. any suggestions would be great. OH, this is for my 10g bare bottom tank. i'm willing to add more fake plants/hiding places if need be.

Nix the fish and get snails, shrimp or both. Inverts create less waste (although everything creates waste and that must be taken into account!), so they are the ideal housekeepers. Snails are probably my #1 suggestion as they won't mind the bare bottom at all since they carry around their hiding spaces and they have absolutely no ability to eat fry (certain shrimp have been known to take a munch, even ghost shrimp).

One of my persoanl favorites for clean up duty, that have a personality that is a delight, is the dwarf sized corydoras. I'm keeping 9 of the C Habrosus in my fry tank with no trouble for the fry. Between fry batches they keep the filter cycled and are fun to watch. They won't do much for algae but eat up the excess fish food very nicely.

Personality wise they would have been fine, although, they can be rather shy so you would have wanted to add decorations. Plus, many of them will not accept anything other than algae growth as food, and they can be rather delicate. I think the snails were the perfect choice for that tank.
