can I mix cories

I am new to all this, so please bear with me.

I have recently set up a 36G tank, where I currently house

assorted live plants
8 neon tetras
1 BN pleco
1 bandit Cory

I read that cories need to be in a group, so I would like to buy more. My question is. Can I mix different varieties of Cories and still have them considered a group as long as they add up to more than 4? Or do I need to have 4+ of the same kind of cory?

thanks,
Ed

I found some related threads which answered my question. Seems like I should be getting the same type of cories even though occasionally different groups will inter-mingle.

In my experience, corys will mix together quite well. Some species do show a preference for their own if given oppportunity. A group of five seems to work well; if you want more than one species, I would have 3 of each (or more if you like them). I have about 30 or more corys in my 115g, and there are several species, with most at five but a few at 2 or 3.
