Can any type of algae eater survive during ammonia cycling?

I guess this is a silly question, since it wouldn't be called fishless cycling then. But what about snails or something?

Snails are often actually more sensitive than fisjh I'm afriad. I would have to say no to this.

If you're doing a fishless cycle just keep your lights off and you shouldn't see any algae.

I actually have plants too, so light is necessary. Just getting a little anxious... I will continue to enjoy my plants for now. Was just getting worried too because I heard that the ammonia cycling can really get some brown gunk all over tank before its done :)

No: Not recommended by Ron.

If employed as a portion of fish cycling with proper feeding then IMHO "no problem" with hardy species.
