Thumbs down Be aware of bad decor

So I couldn't figure out way my fish were dying!!!!! They all looked healthy, routing water changes everything was correct.....finally found out what was killing my fish! I had bought a piece of fake looking drift wood log from petco for a decor....I decided to swap around my decorations into my two tanks. I pulled the fake wood decor out of the water and within 2 minutes it reaped of gas! It smelled the whole room up with the reading odor of gas! I smelled the decorations because I didn't know where the awful smell was coming from and it was defiantly the decoration! I threw it in the garbage and my fiancÚ walked in and noticed the smell first thing! Ever since then my fish have been happy and no more deaths!

Is the wood you bought sold for reptiles rather than fish?
If it is it's not aquarium safe, normal decorations tend to be sold and work for both but the wood Petco and Petsmart sell is typically grape wood and it will rot if left in water.

It was NOT wood, it was for fish...it was in the fish section and I have seen it online for fish decorations.. It looks like wood but it is fake...it was heavy so it wasn't plastic
