When I set up my 65 gallon I used playsand, and I really couldn't be happier.
It's finer and lighter than the pool filter sand, so it took more washing than the heavier sand, but it's also softer and smoother.
Cleaning is a breeze as opposed to having to dig down into the gravel to vacuum.

Gravel - shove the tube through the gravel to the bottom of the tank.

Sand - lightly swirl the end of the tube about a half inch over the sand. With sand, the waste has a tendency to collect in certain areas making cleaning even easier.

125 - BGK, chanchito cichlid, pictus cats, silver dollars, palmas bichir
125 - cichlids (severums, bolivian rams, chocolate), rainbows ( turquoise, red), loaches (angelicus, zebra, kuhli and horseface), plecos (BN, RL and clown), denison barbs, tiretrack eel, pearl gouramis, betta
90 - Congo tetras, african knife, upside down cats, spotted ctenopoma, kribensis, delhezzi bichir
2.5 - betta
