Anyone got experience with black skirts and tank mates?

So I got a couple Black skirt tetras (Only two, I will be going back for 3 more this week, I was misinformed) because I was told they were great tank mates to platy fish, now i'm being told they are nippy and aggressive. So far my community has been peaceful but I'd like to hear some opinions from others with experience. How aggressive are these fish? Also, is putting a snail in with these guys a bad idea?

There are just so many variables to consider that you have to vet those that give you advice, to see how similar their setup is to yours. The size of the tank, fish they are kept with, manner in which they are kept, etc, all play a role in the fish's behavior, so that's the information that's important when considering the application of ones advice to your situation - someone who keeps one tetra in a 10 gallon tank would have a very different experience than someone who keeps 20 of them in a 55 gallon.

That all being said, it's really hard to give good advice without knowing the basics of your tank, such as dimensions and inhabitants.

I have kept a lot of different species of tetras, but can't remember if black skirts were among them. I think I had them briefly - came with a tank or something. In any event, most of them behave the same in my experience. Usually peaceful with enough space and good stocking choices. Often aggressive in too small of a tank or school size, or with the wrong fish. Occasionally aggressive to some types of fish despite having enough space and numbers.

So if you share with us what your setup is, we would be able to provide a better guesstimate about what you should expect.

hi
i have a group of 8 in my tank, they share it with tiger barbs, rummy nose tetra,
yoyo loaches, two gobys, a group of guppys, and mollys,
they stick to their group and don't bother anyone, i would like to make the group larger,
along with the rummy nose, the tank they are in is a jewel 300.
i have kept them also with angel fishernd again as they were in a large group
they kept the pecking to themselves, but some people are not
so lucky, same a s keeping barbs...mine are like kittens..

Tank and school size is the key to these guys. As stated above specific factors will cause the fish to relax and act normally while crowding, too small a tank or no real cover may push them to aggression/ Black skirts like all the compressed tetras, Serpaes, Phamtoms, ect......... tend to be fin nippers in the wrong set up.

How big is the tank?
