I have a brand new 55 gal tank, new that I am currently cycling. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for the tank. I need fish that are fairly easy to care for and I am definitely getting a pleco of some sort. I already have 6 platies, a burmese boarder loach and a whiptail catfish that I am moving over from another tank.
Well, for starters I would definitely get more loaches. They're a schooling fish so keeping at least three of them (more than that is better, too) is a good idea. Plus, watching them interact is worth it. As for plecos, any of the smaller species would work. I particularly like bristlenose plecos as they're fantastic algae eaters and one of the more active species of pleco. Rubberlips would also work, as would clown loaches. Just be sure to have some driftwood in the tank for your pleco(s) to gnaw on.
What sexes are your platies? If you've got both sexes I'd suggest getting some fish to keep the fry population down; dwarf cichlids, gouramis and some tetras like Colombian tetras would be good for this sort of thing (plus are nice fish to have, anyway).
Of course, all of this advice comes with the caveat of "if your water parameters are right."
Would add another four of the border loaches that usually grow four to six inches before I considered clown loaches that grow considerably larger and are in my expierience ,quite hard to part with if one cannot provide the larger tank they require as they mature.:-(
So I added a pleco (not sure on the type but its not the common one), 3 angel fish and two yo-yo loaches. I am waiting for my LFS to get some polka dot loaches and then i will get several more.

Depends on whether you have room in the tank that is holding the fish until your 55 gal is cycled.
Certainly wouldn't add any fish to already crowded tank or,,,a tank that is (cycling).
Couldn't edit previous post in time allowed.
If you have another tank that has cycled and is holding fish ,then you could speed the process in the 55 gal by borrowing some filter material from the tank that is holding fish, and placing this material in the filter compartment of the 55 gal.
This would allow you to add fish SLOWLY one or two at a time ,with a week in between adding another one or two fish until your 55 gal is stocked.
Or you could borrow the filter material from the tank holding fish and place it in the filter compartment of a small quarantine tank. (wise)
Either way,, is wise to add fish slowly.Too many fish added to young tank too quickly,, can result in trouble= sick, dead fishes.
I already cycled the tank, and have added the majority of fish. I had been cycling the tank before my posts and used a filter and a bio-wheel to speed it up.
Would the previous stock list be okay for the 55?
