46g Stocking help.

I am having a hard time figuring out what fish I want to have in my 46 gallon tank. I'd prefer smaller ones. Use to have tetras in it and i loved the way they schooled

I was thinking maybe:
Kuhli loaches - LOVE the way the look and swim.
Tetras
???-other fish
Maybe a few Red Chery Shrimp or Amano
1 snail.

I know that list is extremely vague but any help or suggestions would rock!

Justin

Not to double post, but since I cant edit yet, I thought I would make a better more thought out "wish list" now that I have had more time today to research.

Right now I am leaning towards:

Tube-mouthed Pencilfish - Poecilobrycon Eques
Celestial Pearl Danios - Celestichthy Margaritatus
Dwarf African Frog
Black Diamond Cory Cat - Corydorus Hastatus
Dwarf Cory Cat - Corydorus Habrosus
Olive Nerite Snails - Neritina Reclivata Alexandre
Red Cherry Shrimp

I wanted a few Kahlii Loaches but I don't know if they would work with that selection of fish.
Not sure how many of each I should get. Was leaning more towards the Dwarf cory cat over the black diamond.
And the thing I liked about those snails is that they will not reporduce in freshwater. They will lay eggs, but they wont hatch. Thought that was cool.

Any thoughts or suggestions to the list?

Everything you chose will work but if you are leaning on snails as one of your stocks, check your pH and KH. The tetras and pencilfish will not like the KH being increased when you dose calcium. Calcium is very important if you want to maintain healthy shell growth of the snails.

Thanks Lupin. I am not 100% on the snails yet. Had them in my saltwater tank and were pretty fun to watch. Might just avoid them this time.

I will totally look into it tabatha! :) I am making my 46g my small tank. I have a deal going on with the LFS by my house. they have a 220g tank they have been trying to get rid of. It comes with a stand and "bad" lighting. all for 450 dollars. Never been used. Just trying to figure out where I could put it.
