19 Gallon - stocking?

I have a 19G tank thats been running for a few months, that currently has 3 platys, 1 molly, 1 male betta, and 6 bronze corys. However, I'd like one more shoaling fish species, and I've had my heart set on neon/cardinal tetras before I even started stocking the tank, however I've read how fragile they are and so decided on them as the last fish I put in.

I've used aqadvisor and it says I'll be a few % overstocked if I get 8 neon/cardinal tetras, would that cause severe problems? Is aqadvisor being overgenerous? If so, can anyone recommend some other shoaling species I could put in to complete my tank?

Thanks.

I think you're at the limit now. The actual species of fish is as important as its size, and a male Betta may not take kindly to small shoaling fish like neon tetra.

Cardinal Tetra do not last in harder water, which is essential for livebearers so I'm assuming your water is medium hard or harder and the pH is above 7. Neons are perhaps less sensitive, though long term they too will be better (healthier and longer lived) in soft water. You can read more in our fish profiles, click the shaded names.
