Just fishing for opinions if you don't mind.
I change my tank around a lot, I put a lot of thought into this one and a lot of time so I'm not changing anymore, Unless its adding more Cabombas to carpet and Wisteria.
Good job, Doki! I like it. . . except that the Camboba is going to need constant trimming to stay low - I really like the bushy look of it, though! I'd add some floaters. . . but that's my preference! I know the fish would like it, too!
I would like some amazon frogbit but wouldn't they block off the light and harm some of the plants? If I ever get a German ram then I'd get some floaters ASAP.
I'm currently in the process of setting up a smaller tank for the betta with a mini-light I wanna make it a small planted tank so there will be room in the 20 for a german ram.
German Blues need very specific needs to thrive, but I'm sure you'll be doing a lot of research into that one. . . The only thing that would probably suffer (that I know) under the lower lighting *might* be your wisteria. . . A quick way to solve that problem would be to let IT float, then it would be closer to the light If it's happy, the Camboba will shoot up, and you'll have TONS after trimming it back constantly to more than fill your other tank. Your Betta and your Rasbora will also really appreciate the floating plants and dimmer lighting - but that will change the scape a bit, lol!
Very nice, but once again keeping that Cabomba short is going to be a battle. I think it would be easier in the long run to move it and the Wisteria to the background.
Yeah I've thought about that too perhaps when I get fish that require it I will do it, Also I heard Ludwigia can grow to the top of the tank and give a similar effect. I'm not to fond of floating plants just for the fact that they block light but there are alternatives
I've had duckweed and I'm one of those people that hates it with a passion although I didn't have any problems getting rid of it like some people do. I feel like the rasboras are so silly they will be happy no matter what haha, and The betta has a log to creep in if he wants some shade as well as a few other spots under the wood or in the bushes.
Well. . . whatever you decide, it looks very nice right now Let me know if you find something that's a low/medium height and doesn't need insane amounts of light. . . I need something in-between, too!
Pretty little thing! I hope he likes his new home He needs some meat on his bones - keep an eye on that concave tummy and make sure it fills in over the next month or so. . .
It's a beautiful planted tank, an aqua scape has more in depth characteristics. Like cliffs, grass hills, a forest look, or a layered format. Yours is a great planted one level setup, and your pick in plants are perfect but none the less its a planted tank not an aqua scape. Google it you will see the difference.
Wow! Outstanding! I love the plant choices. If that were my tank the only, and I mean only change I would make would be to replace the plastic deco with natural driftwood. I like the natural look though.
Thanks for caring, unfortunately this tank went to hell it's doing pretty bad, I recently ordered some hygrophilia corymbosa and java fern a few weeks ago, By now all of the hygro's died from an unknown reason, The stems turned weak and black. The Java fern is doing great however I see lots of new growth.
I'm going to start a new tank, 20 gal long with soil and gravel but I'm gonna use flourite this time and get new bulbs as well as fertilizers, All I have right now is Flourish Comprehensive and Excell.
Also, The ram died while being treated for ich. I felt the effects of not having a quarantine tank and my whole tank got infected so I had to take him out and treat him. Most of my cabombas and wisterias died from being trimmed too much because I changed the layout every week :S now that I learned from these newbie mistakes I'm gonna start fresh with the 20 long, I also recently got hired at aquarium store right on my block so that will open new doors for me. Thanks again for the inquiry.
if you want a ground cover you can use Glossostigma, or dwarf hair grass, limnophila aromatia, Pogostemon helferi. Check out this site it might help you www.aqmagic.com
Ahhh, Doki! I'm so sorry to hear you've been having such a hard time! At least, for one shining moment, it was glorious, neh? Congrats on the new job, that'll make things easier to come by, PLUS give others the benefits of your experience - something I've found sadly lacking in fish shops. Can't wait to see how the 20g goes - I'm sure you'll have better luck with all you've learned - will the 10g become a QT tank? They really are so important, it's true. Poor little ram
I think your tank is beautiful. Might be worth the trimming in my opinion. I can't think of a small plant that would give you that nice bushy look that the cabombas provide.
