Update on my 45 gallon

Went to the pet store today and got some new fake plants for this tank. Before it was pretty pathetic, there were only three fakes in there, two small ones and the larger one that's towards the left. I bought some live plants for my 10 gallon betta tank and the fakes that were in there I rinsed off with some conditioned water and let them air dry for a couple of hours before putting them in this tank.

The fish are two lyretail mollies: one silver, one creamsicle. The silver likes to bully the creamsicle, nothing too rough just some chasing and sometimes a little bit of nipping but nothing that has caused any injuries. Most of this bullying goes on during the feedings, and it starts right after I put down my Dalmatian Molly so I think it has something to do with them being the only mollies in the tank. I'm hoping that the added plants will make it easier for Penny to avoid Clem.

There are also four platies: a sunburst, a bumblebee (will definitely be getting more of those), a blue mickey mouse, and a sunburst mickey mouse. There used to be two dalmatian mollies but one had some horrible disease. Within three days of bringing her home from the pet store I had to put her down, and the other which I had had for a few weeks got ich and by the time I noticed it (she was more white with a dusting of black spots) she had it really bad.

The rest of the tank was infested and I treated by doing a 20% water change, slowly raising the temp a little every day until it reached 86 degrees and also adding salt. Yesterday and today I slowly lowered the temp and did a 20% water change. The fish are doing fine, no more white spots, and no more rubbing themselves against the decorations. I'm setting up a quarantine tank that I'm going to putl any new comers in for 2 weeks at least before adding them to my main tank. Unfortunately I don't have the funds for medications so any sick fish I do buy I'll have to take back to the pet store.

Looking good.

Hopefully that will cut down on the chasing. That can really stress out a fish and leave them vulnerable to all sorts of problems.

Good luck.

Animal testing is a terrible idea; they get all nervous and give the wrong answers.
