Update on 75 gallon

I wanted to show y'all an update on my 75 gallon. Everything is going quite well. There are currently 5 angelfish(3 silvers, 1 marble/1 smokey), 3 blue gouramis, 1 bull dog pleco/2 amano shrimps. I am on the fence about getting 2 more gouramis. Right now, the gouamis only chase each other and don't bother the angels. They don't fin nip each other, just a bit of chasing. Occasionally, I find them weaving, circling and swirling together. It's really cute to watch xD

If I do not get 2 more gouramis, I may consider getting some cories. Again, on the fence about those. I also won't be getting the cories until I receive my new canister rated for 100 gallons.

Plant-wise, I have 3 stems of narrow leaf hygros(the angels/goruamis love these plants), corkscrew vals, cambomba(whatever has survived), wisteria, water sprite, duckweed, salivna, asian water grass, ludwiga and a ruffled sword.

I am super excited, this weekend I am adding a DIY CO2 generator. Right now, I don't plan getting too complex with my CO2. I am just adding it just so my plants have a little extra something. If I get moderately good growth with just this 1 generator. I will keep only 1. If not, I will add only 1 more generator. I won't add a 3rd unless I am able to trade my current bulbs for higher lighting bulbs.
The CO2 generator will be 2 2 liter bottles that have the yeast mixture and 1 500ml bubble counter bottle. My diffuser will be a powerhead. Once I get my new canister, I will use it as my diffuser.

The picture shows a working airstone...I have turned it off as of last night to prepare for my CO2 generator.

I am convinced that the duckweed multiples when I am sleeping. I now have double of what is in the photo below O.O

That's a great start to 2014, for sure! Another gorgeous update - this tank has come such a long way in what *seems* like a very short time! It's beautiful!

I see the reflection of TFK in the glass on one of the shots - that made me grin! Keepin' it real! ^___^
Thanks for the update, and keep posting! Can't wait to see where this year takes you! *hugs*

Hehe
Thanks bunches. I figured it was a good time for another update. I pushed through my ankle sprain misery and did a water change today. It was much needed. I rinised the media and cleaned the canister hoses. Oh the hoses were a pain!!! But thankfully they only needed 1 swipe with the wire brush. I also rearranged the right side a little bit as well. When I get the rig running I'll have to post pics.

After a much needed water change. Even Scooter the pleco came out to play in the flow of fresh water.

Now, the back right corner is bugging me with it's....emptiness. But I use that corner to siphon out the water. If I fill in the corner, I'll have no where to siphon with all the plants O.O

Also, I am hoping to get a group of 6-10 cories this weekend. I am also on the hunt for my 7th and final angel. It will take much searching for this angel. I'm thinking it'll be a dark colored angel.

heehee, I had to look back up to figure out what you were talking about - it obviously didn't bother me any! You can always get some rhizome plants to attach to that driftwood! Then scootch the wood forward a little bit, so there's a hole behind it for siphoning - you'd never be able to tell from the front! I have so much stuff hidden behind rhizome plants in the corner of my 55, lol. ^__^

Oooh, did you see the pretty angels that Lionhead is getting? Blue Marble, I think the picture said. . . I've never kept angels, dunno if those are 'dark' or not - they're all gorgeous to me! Good luck on your hunt for the perfect number 7 - and three cheers for Cories!

I did not see it *runs to find the thread*
I do think the angel will be some sort of Philippine Blue. My silvers have a 1/4 PB from their mother, but not enough to show it on them. One of my silver ghosts shows a very slight hint of it on his dorsal fin, but still not very much.

What rhizome plant you have in mind? I have my java fern/anubis, but they're tiny right now.

Anubias is what I would use - because the leaves are nice and wide, and would hide quite a bit! True, yours are woObies still - but they grow quicker than you might think for such a slow-growing plant! I'd keep an eye out for some older plants being sold by hobbyists, rather than checking pet shops! But then, I had to go back up and look to figure out what you were talking about, lol. The tank looks great! It's really turned into a jungle amazingly quickly! <3

I did plant some hygro trimmings infront of the DW. so hopefully they'll cover the spot nicely

I checked my calender this morning and the 30th marks 1 year since I got my silvers! I thought that day was a little later.
For those who hasn't followed since the very beginning; I started off with 7 silvers. 1 DOA and the others just itching to get into the tank. They came to me pea sized.

The day I got them

6 months in

Well, I guess you're wondering what happened to the other 3? Well, I got a school of 12 rummy nose tetras. Fell in love with them and got 12 more! Tank crashed and everyone got ich. Someone told me to give my angels a salt dip. Well, after that, I'll never deal with salt ever again. The salt took 1 of my angels and the other's fell to ich. The ich I had was heat resistant and after a week, it wasn't budging. Kordon Rid Ich+ brought down the ich in my tank.

I'm working on getting current pictures of my 3 silvers. I'd like to get 1 with all 3 together. lol. They're about silver dollar sized now

And this one to be a boy. This one also has a very slight blue hint to his dorsal fin when he spreads em

But the fish you have nice are really pretty and I love your tank! :D

Thank you. I was really bummed to have lost half of my silvers. But the silver-lining to losing them was I was able to rescue the pearlscale smokey, blue marble and get my dream kio!
I may also have the chance to get either a blue platinum veil or a group of cories.
