At least you didn't go to Petco.

Everything happens for a reason, but the reason isn't always good.

The local Petco is an aquatic hell hole. I refuse to spend even a dime there on anything because of that. All my local Petsmarts (I've got 4 within easy driving distance) are well maintained and looked after. They've always one or two (usually two sometimes even three) people working exclusively in that section. One's usually doing maintenance like vaccuuming the tanks or changing water in the betta cups, etc. When I got the platys the girl who netted them

1) Understood me wanting only females
2) Knew that even getting females who weren't obviously pregnant didn't mean I wouldn't have fry on my hands.
3) Actually asked about the size, type, and length of set up on my tank.

I can't say anything like that about the LFS I go to. None of them have ever even once asked me about my tank.

Your tanks look great Ty! Nice job on the decorating :)

I think it's kind of funny because my Petco vs. Petsmart situation is exactly the opposite of yours. Petco is ok and Petsmart is the terrible one with disease in literately every tank and don't even get me started on the bettas.

20 gallon long: 3 adult Neolamprologus similis + about 11 fry of various ages; low light planted tank
20 gallon long:2 freshwater dwarf puffers (Puff Puff and Poofer); medium-light planted tank
10 gallon: 1 male betta named Wormy; low light planted tank
10 gallon: 1 male betta named Dante; low light planted tank
2, 5.5 gallon tanks that are currently empty (I see more fish on the horizon )

The bettas are still in death cups so their situation isn't great but at least I see the people at Petsmart changing the water in them on a regular basis. Some places don't even do that. These platies are actually my second batch of Petsmart fish, my first is my betta Shark.

So far all three girls are doing great. They're active, voracious feeders, and maintaining a good color. They're on the young side, rather little girls actually but doing great. I'm learning that I have a weakness for platies. There's something about them that makes me absolutely love them and I'm having to restrain myself from getting a few more.

They've been in QT for about a week now, three more to go then I see about more catfish and neons.

LOVE LOVE LOVE it. I have a 45 gal. hex. and a slate structure too. Haven't seen the algae eater since he has claimed the slate cave as his domain. What are you using for filtration???

Sorry for the long time between updates. It's just pretty boring to say, "Everything is going the same."

Updates, lets see. The sunburst platys I got had babies. I've got four young females in my tank now along with another dozen fish in my quarantine/grow out tank.

My RTBS Mekong is just about full grown. I think I need to increase the size of her cave because she's starting to have issues squeezing into it.

At work my betta Shark got dropsy, I don't know why. He died. After about two weeks of looking at my tank to see what he's up to and realizing he was no longer there I got another betta. Meet Maki. I got a lighter colored betta because for how gorgeous Shark was he was still so dark he just disappeared when he went to the rear of the tank.

Filtration is just an old school Penguin 300 with Dr. Fosters cartridge shells filled with polyester foam.

Beautiful betta! Do you still have your oto in your betta tank?
Any update photos of your RTBS and FTS of your hex? I would enjoy seeing those pics.

If you don't stand up for something you'll fall for anything...
