Newest addition to the tank. Working on my photography skill, trying some different lenses and camera was in full manual mode. After about 150 something shots.
Thanks, the koi range from a little bigger than quarter size on the body, but not quite at the half dollar stage. The blushing smokey is getting close to nickle size. I expect that I should see a pair forming up probably around the end of the year. I was using a macro lens on these pictures.
mine are too busy worrying about what they are gonna eat to be interested in pairing..... I have 3 and they are the about the size of the bottom of a coke can. maybe a bit smaller. I think they have dropped their breeding tubes, but anytime i try to spy on em they see me and just look at me. Cant get them from the sides to sex em.
All of my angels that I have kept have always had a healthy appetite. I use to have one female that would start waggling as soon as she saw me enter the room. For sexing I had to wait until I was able to catch them in the act. Give them time, with 3 you might get a pair.
yeah I don't really care about breeding them anyway. Just would like to know what i got lol. It really doesn't matter much to me what sex they are except pure curiosity.
Thank you for the compliments. It is angels that really got me into keeping fish and seriously learning about the hobby. Even after taking a year away from the freshwater side of the hobby while I tried my hand at saltwater, when I came back everything about the tank has been centered around these guys.
The angel in the first picture unfortunatly I found dead yesterday before I left for work. Thinking it may have not adjusted well to the stress of changing tanks. It had been acting healthy the night before and even eating when I fed them. The store I got them from does have a 7 day guarentee, so I was able to replace it. It was one of my favorites out of the group and I was looking forward to seeing it grow out.

ah barb... prolly as with my amazon, only the strong survive lol. My 3 angels bullied their 2 angel tank mates to death. Jezabelle was number 1 suspect
I cant explain the deaths of my 2 angels any other way. There were 5 together. All the same size. Built a hiearchy and 2 were buillied to death. No sign of disease. Water params perfect, the other 30+- fish still perfect Posted via Mobile Device
Angels can be funny that way, some are very mellow while others everyone better stayclear especially as they start to mature. My past experience with angels I had a group that was very mellow, even after two of them paired up and started spawning in the tank. The most they ever did was chase the other fish away from their eggs. Once the eggs were gone everyone would hang out together. I know other people though that have had to put a pair in their own tank because they were more aggressive.
Barb, they're BEAUTIFUL!!! I have to agree with Aussie - your shots make me remember why everyone swoons for angelfish. Fantastic shots, too - tank photography is SO HARD! Every good pic is a huge accomplishment (for me, anyway!) Great work. . .
Sorry to hear about the loss. *cries* he was a real beauty. . .
. . .glad that the shop was able to give you a new one. . . time for another photo shoot?
Thank you. I agree tank photography is definitly a challenge. At least we have digital available instead of just film, otherwise I wouldn't be able to afford to improve my skills in this aspect of photography. Going to see about taking some more pictures of the tank and angels this weekend.
Unfortunatly the angel that I got as a replacement passed a couple of days ago. Clamped fins and hiding in the back along with showing a disinterest in food. Thinking that it might be more than just not handling the stress of a new tank well. So for now will stay with the 3 angels that are in the tank and observe everyone. At the end of the summer hoping to get some more from a breeder in Florida and that will give me time to set up one of the empty tanks as a quarentine tank.
Thanks Boredomb and Perseusmom, these guys are definitly the main feature of this tank. Everyone has settled in nicely and looking right at home. Definitly a nice highlught to a week that had started off badly.
Still not completly happy with the plants in the tank, have areas in the back that feel a bit bare. Been thinking about trying some jungle vals and see how they do.
I love the video! They are so pretty! I love them all! The dark one is my favorite <3! I also love the white ones with black bars! They are all awesome. I probably should have gotten some from online.
I'd definitely try jungle vals! I had some in my tank a year ago, and until I took a haitus from fishkeeping, it was doing pretty well, and I have only 0.667 watts per gallon.. I think it would look beautiful.
Thanks Austin, the dark one is a smokey pinoy definitly a beautiful looking fish. I would definitly recommend Carol for anyone looking to get some stunning fish. She is very particular in what she keeps and sells and if they don't meet her standards she doesn't sell them. Cost is a bit more when shipping is included but in my opinion for these guys it was definitly worth it.
I do think I will try some jungle val, although I need to let the bank account recover a bit first. I know a local hobbyist that has jungle val in his tank, will probably try him first and see if he has any extra that I could get from him.
