Ramen's Aquariums

Okay so I'm still new to the whole aquarium dealy. I dunno about how you guys know the lighting and all that stuff. I dunno what kind of lighting. I don't really know how to properly give lighting to the fish. I know that sucks and all, but I do take as good of care of them as possible.

I have two aquarium's. One is a five gallon, which is on my desk, and one is a 20 gallon, which is at my mom's. I may have some unorthodox tank mates in my tanks but they seem to be friendly and working fine.

My 20 Gallon uses an Elite Hush 20 Filter and my 5 uses an Elite Hush 10.

I use tap water conditioner when i add tap water so the chlorine etc doesnt hurt my fish. I use this stuff called "Cycle" which is apparently good for them and helps reduce fish loss. I have waste management which apparently helps with a lot of bad stuff in the water and poop and stuff. I also have aquarium salt but the box doesnt say how often to use it so if anyone knows when i should put it in that would be great. It isnt salt water salt its just salt that helps reduce stress and stuff i guess.

I feed them mainly fish flakes. I am unemployed at the moment so I cant really get them bloodworms and stuff.

I have some staple food stabs which i was told is good for plecos and bottom feeders, but I only have one container of it should I use it for my 5 gallon or my 20 gallon? Ill list the fish in each tank below.

Are all these things i put in the water like the water conditioner and stuff necessary? I dont mind buying it but if it really doesnt help much I dont want to waste my money. same with the salt.

I also have a betta in one of my tanks. He does eat fish flakes but i do have some betta food. is it better to give him betta food? also will my other fish eat the betta food thus making him get none?

I've been wanting to add some live plants to my tanks but i know nothing about them. which plants would be good to start with? Currently I have a marimo algae ball, but thats my only live plant.

Five Gallon Tank
1 Marimo Algae Ball
2 Golden Dojo Loach
4 Snails
7 Guppies
13 Guppy Fry [unless some are hiding i think im down to 8 :(]

Twenty Gallon Tank
1 White Koi
1 Blue Crowntail Betta
1 Shubunkin Goldfish
1 Plecostomus
2 Serpae Tetra
2 Tiger Barbs
2 Golden Dojo Loach
3 Neon Tetra

I try to get my fish in at least pairs. I had three tiger barbs and two green tiger barbs but the green ones died and one of the tiger barbs died I dont know why. I think my dojo's ate the corpses too because i didnt see any. I know they seem like odd tank mates for a betta but he doesn't seem to be aggressive towards them. He even plays 'peek-a-boo' with me in his little rock. MY dojos are awesome too. When i put my hand in to rearrange the plants, or clean the glass they always rub my hand or kiss it or sit in my palm. They are so affectionate i love them to death!!! I'll try to get some pics/vids of my 20 gallon tank soon.

I cant think of anything else to say so let's get on with some pictures shall we? I currently only have some of my five gallon since i just started to get into the whole forum thing today. They are also blurry I have no idea why.

I had gotten my five gallon from an old roommate. We had to go our separate ways and his college wouldnt allow fish in the dorm so he said to take the aquarium. Little did I know that behind his closed door for three months he really didn't take good care of his fish. I was really curious as to why his fish kept dying. The only survivor's were the two golden dojo loaches. Well here are the photos i took before cleaning EVERYTHING and replacing the filter

Now I had to do a complete water change, and boy did it need it. The water I took out was yellow, and after agitating the substrate it turned BROWN. Gross right? So I replaced all the water. There was string algae on EVERYTHING so I rinsed and cleaned everything in hot water. I know not to use any type of soap or chemical on things that go inside the aquarium. I only used hot water, and rubbed it with my hands. When I cleaned out the filter so it was clean when i put it into storage, in case i needed it later, i took the sponge out and was like, "Kewl a black sponge ;D," but once I put it under the tap I was like, "Ew... a white sponge...." The sponge was so full of poop and algae and who knows what else it was black and gross! Anyway here is how it looks now after the cleaning!

Right after the cleaning:

These were taken today:

Also my guppies had some babies today! I'm real sorry the pic is blurry.

And because i love them here are my dojo :)

Your goldfish is a shubunkin to me. That's not a fantail. Fantails have split caudal fins.
