yeah they do very poorly as individuals and usually die within months. I'd say you should have atleast 5. I'm suprised it wasn't mentioned where you bought it...even in the less than knowledgable stores around here its marked that they must be kept in groups.

wow at the fish store usually it says whiether or not its a shoaling fish... ill see if i can get some more in a couple of days im plum out of money. and by the way there nocturnal totally. i fed everyone in the tank and left the light on and he jut swam there not eating then the next day i fed and right away turned off the light and when i looked he was swimming about eating flakes. i really need to get a hatchery or something for some blood worms or tubifex since it says they like live stuff more.

well practically ALL fish like live food more lol. I generally refuse to feed live foods (with the exception of guppy fry that I have raised myself or newly hatched brine shrimp) due to the risk on introducing parasites or other pathogens to the tank.

30 cents is a steep price for ghost shrimp...they run here for about 8-10 cents a piece. The angels I'm growing out just go nuts for guppy fry and will chase them until they are caught. One tried to hide under the sponge filter and the angels just sat there watching it until it was foolish enough to come out half an hour later. Other than that they get a combination of flakes, frozen blood worms and frozen brine shrimp. My main tank gets flake food, krill pellets, frozen blood worms, and every once and a while frozen brine shrimp. I try to keep the diet varied but the discus will rarely accept anything but the blood worms. It doesn't seem any worse for wear thus far but sooner or later I'm going to have to get it to take something new. I might try out the ol garlic trick tommorow.
