Twistermom what is the fish in the first and fourth picture? I just posted a thread with the same fish but it is unknown to me of what it is. I adopted it about 8 years ago and never knew what it was. The fish is about 10 inches long and has been in my tank for quite some time.

Thanks for all the good comments!
Hailfirex, those are tinfoil barbs. I dont know what size your tank is, but my tinfoils sure love each others company. None of my other fish school as close as the tinfoils. My 3 started out in a 65 gal, they grew so fast, in about 5 months they outgrew their tank. I did not want to get rid of them. I was lucky to come across a good deal on a used 200gal. They recommend keeping them in a school of 6. Mine seem to be fine in their group of 3, they also school with my 3 bala sharks.

thanks twistermom, there used to be 2 tinfoil barbs, my sister adopted them from one of her friends and in her care one of them died then she had me take it. It's only in a 75 gallon tank but should I have put it in a larger tank? I don't have a larger tank at the moment. but I have had this fish for years.

right now in my 75 gallon, I have the tinfoild barb, a Jack dempsey (also adopted), a silver dollar, a pleco (about 12 inches long) and 5 cory cats. do you think I have overstocked my 75 gallon due to the size of a couple of the fish?

thanks again

My bala sharks are all about 7 in.

Haifirex, I think your tank may be fine. Does everyone get along well? The Jack Dempsey does not bother the other fish? Keep doing your weekly water changes and all should be fine. If you ever set up another tank, I find most fish do better in groups of their own kind. I also enjoy watching schools interact.

Yes all the fish get along (the jack dempsey is a little shy at the moment), but recently I have been dealing with the fish not wanting to eat. So I have been extra careful about water changes and just got them to start eating again. They don't want to seem to eat flake of pellet food, I just got them to eat frozen mosquito larvae so I am crossing my fingers that they pull out of it.

The Jack dempsey is the worst off of all of them, so I am setting up a recovery tank (47 gallon) for it just in case it need to seperate it to get it eating again.
