1 DG
9 shoaling fish
15 ghost shrimp
1 CPO
possibly 3 otos
possibly 1 mystery snail (may risk it for the $2)

How's that look?

Getting a nerite here either today or tomorrow to try and clean up the diatoms that have taken over my tank. He will be moved to the betta tank after he's done his job, but I can't see in the tank but enough to know the plants look dead they are so covered in algae. It's nasty. If the diatom problem persists for more than four months, I'll be adding the otos. It could be that the tank is new, but I have never had diatoms this bad. Maybe it's the lighting. The plants aren't exactly fast growing or stem plants so I think I'm going to have an algae issue. Hoping to add some Anubias here soon, just don't know where. May try to propagate the Crypts first. I need them to spread!! I can't seem to melt them for some reason so they should do good, haha. Also going to try some Excel here soon.

The tank has been neglected due to Aliceander's arrival and I finally told my husband we need to do a WC today. (It was his job to lift the buckets!) I went ahead and tested the water while he was finishing his movie and, to my surprise, I have 0s across the board! Is this due to the plants/TSS vs the bioload of the lone DG and two remaining shrimp or am I magic? I went ahead and topped off the 1/2-3/4 gallons that has evaporated since I set up the tank the day I got Fallis. I was expecting some scary readings but I must say I'm pleased. (:

But with no nitrates? Or is that the plants doing? I've never done plants to the extent that they have much effect on absorbing all the nasties. Just a java fern here or there.

Not sure. Gonna see what they have that looks healthy. Trip got pushed to next weekend, though. And they were out of mystery snails so there's just a nerite in there on loan from the cousin.... She fell in love with both.... Her 2.5g now has a DG, mystery snail, 5 neons, 2 nerites & no filtration. She just won't listen. Her next project is a pea puffer in a 1/4 gallon....

Only trying to be helpful when I say this, but I'd make a list first of fish that you like and that would work with your water and the limited tank length and use that.

If I make a list of fish that likes my water it'd be all cichlids. I'm gonna go with smaller tetras or rasboras most likely. My LFS is so/so on having steady stock so it's really gonna come down to what they have. That doesn't mean I'm gonna throw a school of balas in or anything but I won't know until I get there.
