I just watched him glass surf for a minute and then when I got the rest of the lights on a few minutes later, he was in hiding again already.

Secondly; I got the canister installed and running! I have all three filters running right now, and saw Playco hiding behind on of the Tetra Whispers. After a week I'll remove one Tetra, and after another week I'll remove the other Tetra and hopefully have enough bacteria built up in the SunSun by then to not run into any issues.
yeah plecos can be quite secretive.

I'm not too keen on your plan. While it may work out, there's a real possibility that it may not. I would be more comfortable putting media from one (or both) filters in the canister filter.
Chesh likes this.

90 - Congo tetras, african knife, upside down cats, spotted ctenopoma, kribensis, delhezzi bichir
2.5 - betta

Oh. That would work too. I'll do that lol. Thank you! I think I'd be lost without everyone here

Just catching up here, girly! Looks like things are going great! Love the black sand and the WaterSprite looks like its settling in nicely! I hope it thrives for you!

What is this I'm hearing about Gourami? I've been learning a lot about these amazing fish, and will hopefully soon be bringing home some (when I get my big tank set up). Some of them can be pretty aggressive. Please be careful, and do your homework before swooning for these gorgeous animals leads to trouble O.O

Did you get a QT tank up and running yet? If its at all possible, you should . . . sorry if you did and I missed it!

Glad to hear you got your new canister up and running!!! Great news!

I haven't yet, but I've been searching Craigslist for a cheap 10-20 gallon to use for QT. That will go in our bedroom, since we're literally out of space I have the 20 gallon betta tank in my sons room, the 55 in our dining room, the family room is full of furniture and toys, and there really isn't any room in our bedroom, but I can remove the dogs bed and put it in the hall or something and put the tank there. I'm going to use the double stand I had the 20 on when it was downstairs, and possibly put two tanks in our room.

I've been reading about gourami since we brought home our first tank! First DF had suggested an angelfish, and I just don't know how I feel about that. I was worried about it's fins being nipped by the tetras. I've really fallen in love with the colors and patterns on the gouramis. It sounds like they are really hit or miss though.

Glad your "playco" is still around and somewhat out of hiding!

Couple of suggestions:

- Fill your tank all the way up. When you have space on the glass like that, a lot of your light gets dispersed and with live plants that can sometimes make a difference.
- You might want to think about a background to hide your mechs and also make the fish pop more. One of the cheapest and best looking ones I know (and what I use on all my tanks) is basic black poster board. I have it with both play sand and eco complete (black) substrates and it looks great with all of them. You'll be amazed at how different your tank looks.

-Kristen's tanks:

14g Tall:
Planted, eco-complete, Red Cherry Shrimp

16g Aqueon Bowfront:
Planted, eco-complete, 8 Ember tetras, 7 Green neon tetras, 6 Harlequin Rasboras

36 Aqueon Bowfront: Planted, sand, 10 Julii cories, 8 Zebra Danios
7 Cherry Barbs, Asst snails & Ghost shrimp

Thank you! I meant to look at backgrounds this weekend, but we had a situation come up and didn't have much time. I'll try to remember tomorrow.

I didn't know how full the tank should be lol. So thanks, I thought I'd be safe and leave a couple inches, but I'll fill it up :)

I'm getting extremely frustrated with this new filter. I don't feel like it's doing half as good of a job as the two Tetra Whispers. Not that my water is really dirty, it just is leaving a lot of crap in the top of the water. I tried using the surface skimmer that came with the SunSun, and that thing is a joke. If you have the tube spread open enough to use the skimmer, it doesn't suck through the bottom of the tube and filter the rest of the water. I'm just really disappointed. I saw so many good reviews for these, but I don't understand how anyone can think this is good. I tried finding "troubleshooting" tips online, but of course no one seems to have problems with these :-/
