Went to the pet store today to get some new mollies and found these. I've never seen mollies with these types of coloring before and it's safe to say they're mutts. They're still very little I'd say about an inch and painfully shy. They were not too happy about me trying to take their picture.
Could be the one a gold dust molly. But then they aren't grown enough yet for their coloring to mature. Sometimes my gold dust molly fry appear almost all black and the gold/orange color creeps over it from head first as they mature. They may or may not jbe the same variety. Many times the stores just dump all young "mollie" into one tank regardless of variety.
I was talking to the guy about where they get their stock and with the live bearers it's mostly from local breeders and people who stumble into breeding without enough room for all the fry so the fish aren't kept in tanks by "type" but by size. It's a pretty interesting little store. I'll have to take my camera there one day and get some pics of their stock.
